From a strict television standpoint, “Desiree” provides a revelatory corrective to Tyson’s vengeful harrangues, but it is a jarring half hour. There is a moment where Tyson sneers at the viewer and asks, “You don’t love me no more?” What unfolds in the show’s final three episodes will play a role in any evaluation of what the Washington case means to the Tyson legacy, particularly if “Mike” indulges in his 30-year innocence rant, to say nothing of how the real-life Tyson responds to the portrayal.
Picking up where he left off in their first fight, a confident Zhang flattened Joyce with a right hand toward the end of the round in front of the Londoner’s home crowd. The win and the manner in which he delivered it might earn Zhang a world title shot in 2024.
Warren added: “The winner of this fight will be definitely called to fight the WBO champion next year. The loser will have to wait at least 18 months to two years to get a sniff at a voluntary defence.”
“For my last fight, 60 million people in China tuned in to watch that, I believe we’ll make more history this time, I’m expecting 100 million, I have 1.4billion people behind me and supporting me, let’s make it happen. I’m fighting for my country.”
Matters came to a head when Tyson and Givens gave a joint interview with Barbara Walters on the ABC TV newsmagazine show 20/20 in September 1988, in which Givens described life with Tyson as “torture, pure hell, worse than anything I could possibly imagine.” Givens also described Tyson as “manic depressive” – which was later confirmed by doctors – on national television while Tyson looked on with an intent and calm expression. A month later, Givens announced that she was seeking a divorce from the allegedly abusive Tyson, with the two officially separating on February 14, 1989.
It’s just not popular. Not yet anyway. China has 1.4 billion people, but, says promoter Bob Arum, “that doesn’t mean anything. India has number of people, and you couldn’t sell a ticket to Mahatma Gandhi fighting for the title.” In 2013, Arum signed Zou Shiming, Zhang’s Olympic teammate. The relationship was successful, with Zou even winning a 112-pound title. But he failed to capture national interest. “The problem was the guy couldn’t f—ing fight,” says Arum. “He won two gold medals, I don’t know how, but he couldn’t fight.” Zhang, Arum says, is different. “Heavyweights are the baddest guys in the world,” says Arum. “And I think his ability is much greater than Zou’s was.”
We applied machine learning in two different ways in this paper. The first was to build an interatomic potential for the Mo-Nb-Ta-V-W system. The second was to analyze atomistic simulation data to answer this question: which factor –– among lattice distortion (LD), elastic mismatch, short-range order, mixing energy, and binding energy –– most affects the critical resolved shear stress (CRSS) for a single dislocation to glide in refractory multi-principal element alloys (RMPEAs)? The answer is that LD plays a leading role. We also found, among dozens of RMPEAs, that as the LD decreases, the screw-to-edge ratio in CRSS increases. This intuitive result –– because RMPEAs with smaller LD behave more like pure body-centered cubic metals –– has been hypothesized by many but is systematically demonstrated here for the first time to the best of my knowledge. Paul posted a video on his Instagram detailing his new face tattoo—the same one Tyson has (though it’s unclear if Paul’s tattoo is real)—before showing a man with a bite taken out of his ear. Paul then showed himself with a fake ear in his mouth.
There is sure to be plenty of entertainment in the build-up to this fight, with a world press tour soon to be announced and preparations in both camps already well underway. Tyson has announced he is to stop filming his Hotboxin’ podcast to put his full focus on the July date, while Paul has claimed he is “too sharp and fast” to get hurt by the legendary veteran. Few would have predicted this bout when Paul knocked out former basketball player Nate Robinson on the undercard of Tyson’s exhibition with Jones. The former YouTube star is now 9-1 as a professional, with that defeat coming against Tommy Fury and the wins largely over former MMA stars and little-known boxers.
Announcing the fight he said on X: “My sights are set on becoming a world champion, and now I have a chance to prove myself against the greatest heavyweight champion of the world, the baddest man on the planet and the most dangerous boxer of all time. Time to put Iron Mike to sleep.”
MITCHELL: It just feels like things are changing in a lot of ways, and yet a lot of things still haven’t changed. There are still a lot of racial attitudes that exist in this country that I think we’ve forgotten because there’s a black president. There is, 160 pounds boxing division of course, the story about Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the run-in he had with the Cambridge police . . .
